Welcome to Arthur Hapgood Elementary School!
At Hapgood Elementary, we take pride in our pursuit of excellence and innovation. Our dedicated staff continues to embrace new educational approaches to better serve and inspire our scholars. We are committed to providing a rigorous and engaging academic program aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and a strong focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and Project-Based Learning.
Our Mission is clear: the Hapgood Elementary School staff is committed to providing an environment where students master the skills required to be college- and career-ready. Every instructional decision we make supports this purpose.
Our Vision is to build a thriving community of staff, students, and families who are respectful, responsible, and highly successful global learners. We believe in the power of collaboration and shared responsibility in achieving academic and personal excellence.
To support our mission and vision, we are guided by the following goals:
-
Every student will meet or make measurable progress toward the district’s career and college readiness indicators for their grade level.
-
Through clear and consistent communication, our staff, students, families, and community partners will work together to implement and refine data-informed systems that address the diverse needs of our students.
We are also proud to have established the foundational Lompoc Unified School District's Dual Immersion Program. This 90:10 model begins in kindergarten and first grade with 90% of instruction in Spanish and 10% in English. English instruction increases annually, reaching a balanced 50:50 model by the fifth and sixth grades. Each class is composed of one-third native Spanish speakers, one-third native English speakers, and one-third bilingual students, enriching the learning experience for all.
At Hapgood, we are committed to creating a school environment where every child is supported, challenged, and celebrated. We value and welcome strong partnerships with our families and community. Together, we will help our students SOAR!
Warmly,
Carmen Chavez
